As a bustling city with a rich blend of culture, history, and family-friendly attractions, Milwaukee offers a perfect two-day getaway for families seeking a blend of fun and education. Join us as we uncover the highlights of our recent adventure to the Brew City, where we discovered the delights of the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum, the Milwaukee Discovery World, and the awe-inspiring Milwaukee Art Museum.

Day 1: Imagination Unleashed at Betty Brinn Children’s Museum

Our adventure kicked off at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum, a haven for young explorers filled with interactive exhibits designed to spark creativity and curiosity. From the moment we stepped inside, the museum’s vibrant atmosphere captivated our kids’ imaginations. They eagerly dove into the “Be a Maker” space, where hands-on activities like building, tinkering, and crafting allowed them to unleash their creativity.

Next, we ventured to the “Science CITY” exhibit, where learning felt like an adventure. Our little scientists immersed themselves in experiments and discoveries, learning about physics, engineering, and the wonders of the natural world in an engaging and accessible way.

After a morning of exploration, we enjoyed a picnic lunch at nearby Veterans Park, taking in scenic views of Lake Michigan before heading to the Milwaukee Discovery Center.

Day 1 Continued: Unearthing Wonders at Milwaukee Discovery World

The adventure continued at Milwaukee Discovery World, a dynamic science and technology center located on the shores of Lake Michigan. This hands-on museum offered our family a chance to explore the wonders of science, technology, and freshwater ecosystems in a fun and interactive way.

We started our journey in the “Innovation Planet” exhibit, where we discovered the marvels of technology and engineering through engaging displays and interactive demonstrations. From robotics to virtual reality, the exhibit sparked our curiosity and imagination.

Next, we delved into the “Aquatarium” to learn about the Great Lakes and their importance to the region’s ecosystem. The kids were captivated by the underwater viewing tunnel, where they could observe freshwater fish and other aquatic creatures up close.

Our visit concluded with a trip to the “Reiman Aquarium,” where we marveled at a diverse array of marine life from around the world. The interactive exhibits allowed us to learn about conservation efforts and the importance of protecting our oceans and freshwater habitats.

Day 2: Artistic Marvels at Milwaukee Art Museum

On our second day, we saved the best for last—the iconic Milwaukee Art Museum, a breathtaking architectural masterpiece that houses an impressive collection of art spanning centuries and continents. The museum’s striking wings, known as the Burke Brise Soleil, welcomed us with their awe-inspiring design.

Inside, we marveled at the diverse artworks on display, from classic paintings to contemporary installations. The kids were enthralled by the interactive activities in the Kohl’s Art Generation Studio, where they tried their hand at creating their own masterpieces inspired by the museum’s collection.

As the day drew to a close, we made sure to witness the iconic “wings” of the museum unfurl and flap during the building’s daily opening and closing—a sight that never failed to mesmerize us.

Reflecting on our whirlwind two-day adventure in Milwaukee, we were grateful for the enriching experiences and lasting memories created at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum, the Milwaukee Discovery World, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. From fostering creativity to connecting with nature and appreciating art, our family getaway proved to be a perfect blend of education and fun in this vibrant city by Lake Michigan.
