Welcome back, book lovers! I know it’s been a hot minute (or year) since I’ve shared my recent reads but today, we’re diving into a mix of genres and emotions with a recap of five gripping reads that kept me turning pages late into the night. From fantastical faerie realms to heart-wrenching mysteries, these stories offer a little something for everyone. P.S. If you’re looking to shop online, please consider shopping from an indie bookstore or from my bookshop.org page 🙂
1. A Court of Rose and Thorns by Sarah J. Maas
In Maas’ immersive fantasy world, you’ll follow Feyre Archeron, a young huntress who finds herself entangled in the magical politics of the faerie realm and tormented in her attraction to Tamlin, High Lord of Summer. With rich world-building and complex characters, this book takes readers on a journey of love, sacrifice, and the blurred lines between good and evil. This is the first book of the ACORAT series and, trust me, once you start, you wont want to stop!
2. The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda
This one is for the thriller lovers. In Megan Miranda’s The Last to Vanish, Abby Lovett, manager of The Passage Inn becomes embroiled in a chilling mystery after a guest goes missing while investigating a series of disappearances in the town. As Abby delves deeper, she uncovers dark secrets and realizes she may not know the people around her as well as she thought. Miranda’s skillful storytelling delivers a riveting thriller filled with taut suspense and shocking twists, keeping readers guessing until the very end— seriously, the very end!
3. Every Summer After by Carley Fortune
In “Every Summer After” by Carley Fortune, readers are drawn into the heartfelt story of Percy Fraser, who returns to her lakeside hometown after a decade. Forced to confront her biggest mistake and greatest love, Sam Florek, Percy is swept back into the world of hazy afternoons on the water and warm summer nights. As the story unfolds their deep connection and undeniable love is tested by the decisions of their past. Fortune’s narrative is a deep exploration of love, forgiveness, and the enduring impact of our choices, reminding us that sometimes, it takes revisiting the past to find our way forward. This is the prefect vacation read to add to add to your TBR list.
4. Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score
In Lucy Score’s “Things We Never Got Over” (2022), Naomi Witt, a woman in her thirties, is mesmerized by Knox Morgan, a charismatic and wealthy bar owner. Struggling to reclaim her identity after a difficult breakup, Naomi is enchanted by Knox’s rugged charm, solitary way of life, and rebellious spirit. Despite her reservations, Naomi finds herself tempted to take a chance on love with Knox, sparking a journey of self-discovery and unexpected romance. This is the first book in the 3-part series!
5. The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
Dave’s novel is a gripping domestic mystery thriller that explores the lengths a woman will go to protect her family. When Hannah’s husband disappears, leaving behind a cryptic note, she and her hesitant stepdaughter must embark on a journey to uncover the truth. Skillfully written and full of twists, this book will keep you guessing until the final page. It is also now a limited series on Apple TV and I highly recommend both (but read the book first!!)
6. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
In Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, we meet chemist Elizabeth Zott, whose life takes a dramatic turn when she becomes the unexpected star of a cooking show. Set in the 1960s, Elizabeth navigates the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field while also grappling with personal struggles and societal expectations. With wit and charm, Garmus crafts a story that explores themes of ambition, identity, and the pursuit of dreams, making “Lessons in Chemistry” a captivating and thought-provoking read and probably one of the favorites off my recently read list!
Each of these books shares a unique and compelling story, showcasing the diverse talents of their respective authors. Whether you’re a fan of fantasy, mystery, romance, or thrillers, there’s something here for everyone. So grab a copy, settle in, and prepare to be swept away by these captivating tales!
