Grandma’s Sugar Cookie, design by Tom Fedro

Hey y’all,

I just wanted to post quickly about a gem my husband and I went to the other night in the Six Corners area of Portage Park. It’s called Community Tavern and it was phenomenal. Locally owned and family operated, the gastropub-esque restaurant has low lighting and a warm, romantic atmosphere. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was top-notch. Our waiter was friendly, made great recommendations, and had a great sense of humor.

We started with the Fried Brussels & Cauliflower and the Chicken & Kimchi Dumplings. Let me just say, any place that has fried brussel sprouts or dumplings is usually a-okay in my book, but a place that has BOTH. . . WE HAVE A WINNER.

So right out the gate, it’s going great– then we got our entrees. I ordered my go-to favorite, Steak Frites, that came with a scrumptious house steak sauce and a garlic aioli that I dipped everything in. YUM. Hubby had the Community Bibimbap with steak, which is a unique combination of beech mushrooms, jasmine rice, bok choy, a fried egg, and a few other ingredients. It magically all blended in perfection and he ate every bite.

Even though I was already uncomfortably full, I always make room for dessert. We ordered the cutest Baked Alaska, which our waiter was kind enough to cut in half (to make sure I only ate my half LOL). Then I got their signature dessert, Grandma’s Cookie, to go for later! It’s a seasonal cookie that had a design made by a local artist iced on it. Seriously, such a fun touch!

So! If you find yourself in the Portage Park/Old Irving Park neighborhood and are looking for a good girl’s night or date night spot, check out Community Tavern!
