There have been so many great books coming out that it can be hard to keep your head above water with all of the options! As you probably know, I try to read as much as I can and have a healthy, ever-growing library, so I thought I would share some of my most recent reads and what is coming up next on my autumn to-read list!
By Shari Lapena
First up is the murder mystery Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena! After their parents are found murdered following a heated Easter dinner, the three Merton siblings are the prime suspects or was it a random burglary gone wrong? The book’s narration goes back and forth between all of the different family members as they try to figure out what happened that night and who really killed the millionaire couple.
I’ll admit, it was a little slow to start as you sort out all of the different characters, but once I got past those initial pages, this read really kept me involved and ended up being a great read!
By Colleen Hoover
From the #1 Bestselling author Colleen Hoover comes the book I was NOT excepting, but was still completely invested in. I won’t say too much, but let’s just say, it’s a love story with a side of supernatural. Leeds and Layla are madly in love when tragedy strikes. In an attempt to help her reconnect to the way life was before, Leeds takes Layla back to where their story began, but ends up meeting a mysterious guest who also needs his help.
Again, this book was nothing like what I was expecting and was actually Colleen Hoover’s first time writing in the genre, but I ended up really loving it and read it all in one sitting (I was trapped on an airplane, for full transparency.)
By Colleen Hoover
Colleen Hoover came through for her readers by following her bestseller It Ends With Us with its sequel It Starts With Us. The story starts off right where the last book left off and takes you along on the reconnection of Atlas and Lily and the roadblocks standing in the way of their happily ever after.
It was a tad underwhelming, but if you were invested in these characters from the first book, it was closure in the form of seeing the protagonists get the ending they deserve.
By Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a beautiful re-imagination inspired novel with similarities to novels like Rebecca and Jane Eyre. When our unlikely heroine Noemi heads to the Meixcan countryside after a request from her distraught cousin, she in unsure what she will find. Set in the 1950s, this is a story of family wealth, secrets, and impending doom. This is the perfect classic horror story for the spooky season. This is a definite page turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
By Celeste Ng
A Reese’s Book Club pick from the author of Little Fires Everywhere, Our Missing Hearts is a reimaination of a classic dystopian tale. Bird has learned to keep his head down despite the injustices in the world surrounding him until he suddenly finds himself on a quest to find someone in important from his past and stumbles upon those that could incite the change they need. This was a moving and relevant read that I wasn’t expecting and cannot recommend enough.
